People living in the Channel Islands wishing to send gifts to the UK will
now have pay VAT if the value of the gift is over £36. This limit has been lower
by HMRC from £40 as from the start of the year. This will only apply to gifts
which are defined as non-commercial parcels sent between two private people,
such as Christmas and Birthdays.
All commercial parcels from the Channel Islands have been liable to Vat since
the HMRC changed the rules in April 2012 which removed the allowance of £15.
